Annette was raised in Houston, Texas where she sang and played guitar in church and school choirs from a young age throughout her high school years. She moved to San Diego at the age of 18 and became an accomplished surfer. When not surfing, she took voice lessons from renowned jazz vocalist Kevyn Lettau. She sang in a couple of bands around San Diego while doing what she really loved, surfing, and meeting her life-love, John Skelley in 1992. After marrying in 1994, they formed the band “Slowburn”, performing with the other 3 founding members for 22 years. After retiring and moving to Washington State, they retained the band name “Slowburn” and reconnected with John’s former drummer, Kenny Taylor, from their band, “Streetwise”.
John began playing guitar at the age of 12, performing in multiple bands from junior high throughout high school. After graduating in 1973, he moved to Las Vegas to join his friends, Mike Krug and Mike Avery. They started a band called “Shadowfax”, which evolved to “Tuneswith”, performing all original songs until 1982. They played all over Las Vegas and Phoenix as well as the Sahara Space Center, opening for “Tower Of Power” after “ZZ Top” had to cancel unexpectedly. In 2011 “Tuneswith” was inducted into the Las Vegas Rock Reunion Hall of Fame, less one founding member of the band, Mike Krug, who had previously passed away,
Jim started piano at age 6, taking lessons from the organist at the church his family attended. At 15 years old, he bought his first keyboard, a Howard Combo Organ and started playing in bands throughout his high school years. After high school, he went on to Cal State Long Beach as a Commercial Music Major. A series of prog rock original bands kept him busy during his 20s' and early 30s' writing, recording and performing until getting married and starting a family. Jim took a 15 year break to raise his boys, then began playing in cover bands again just for fun ~ it was better than losing money at poker night! In 2013, Jim retired from Pro Audio Tech, working in studios in L.A., throughout the U.S., and South America and continued to play in cover bands until he moved to Sequim.
“I was just about ready to quit in frustration. Either I try to find good players or sell off everything and call it a day”. Fortunately he met Kenny Taylor and began playing with “Slowburn” in August 2022.
Frank was introduced to playing music at age 6, starting with piano lessons. By 5th grade he had picked up the trumpet and then moved to baritone horn in 8th grade. Having grown up in a home listening to “Elvis”, “The Beatles”, and “Elton John” as well as “Kiss” and “Thin Lizzy”, Rock & Roll was what he wanted to play. Frank picked up his first bass at age 16 and was playing small venues a year later. He played in various clubs from San Francisco to San Jose, as well as performing in several bands in the Santa Cruz Mountains, playing clubs and private parties throughout the 90’s until 2012. He moved to Sequim in 2022 and after getting settled in, set out to find a rock band looking for a bassist, and as luck would have it, “Slowburn” was looking.
Kenny grew up in Encinitas, CA and started playing drums at age 13. He got his start playing in bands at 26 years old. His first paying gig was performing for a bunch of rowdy Marines at the 21 Club at Camp Pendleton. Welcome to rock and roll! He began playing with John Skelley in 1983, initially with the band “Wild Child” and then moving on to what would become a very talented 6 piece horn driven band “Streetwise”. Bidding adieu to San Diego and “Streetwise” in 1994, Kenny moved to Austin, Texas and noodled around with a couple of cover bands, regularly playing on 6th Street to the throngs of tourists checking out the music capital of the world! Kenny moved to Port Ludlow in 2015 and briefly spent some time in an originals and before reconnecting with his longtime friend from junior high school, John Skelley. Now performing their reincarnation and the last band they will ever have to create, “SLOWBURN”.
